Welcome to SB56

The following email was just sent to the RINGO listserv.  I am repeating here as well.  Please note as the email indicates – the website will be the main method of communication during SB56.

Communication at the SBs
We will be using the RINGO website as our primary communication tool at the SBs – so please continue reading to learn more!

RINGO Website
Communication– We will be using our website (www.ringos.net) as a primary means of communication and announcements during the SBs.   The page dedicated to SB 56can be by clicking on the SB 56 tab on the RINGO website.   The site will be updated during the SBs as we receive new information and opportunities – so remember to check it regularly.   You are able to subscribe to our blog on the website (see the right hand side of the page) – but as the note at the top of the SB 56 page indicates:

This page is the main repository of information for RINGOS for SB 56.  More details will be added here as they become available.  Last minute updates (ie meeting location change or new meeting added and occurring in the next few hours) will be posted here as well as posted as a new blog entry.  To subscribe to the blog entries so that you will receive an email with the new post, please see the information on the right hand panel.   Note – edits to this post will not generate an email – so please plan on checking this regularly.

SB 56 virtual platform:

The SB 56 virtual platform has been launched for all registered participants. Please make sure to check your access and log in in advance. Once you enter the platform, you will find a support function by clicking the floating Chat button on the bottom corner of every page.  You can also email the Support Hub by clicking the headphone icon in the top right of your screen. There will be no remote active participation, including for Parties. Negotiations and interventions in negotiating groups will take place in-person only. So, observers and Parties joining remotely will be able to watch only.

Best,

Beth and Tracy

Update for 13 November – RINGO Meeting at 1200

UPDATE Nov 12: COP26 will continue into Saturday, November 13.

The Presidency has announced that it intends to make a new text available at 8am Nov 13 and convene a short, informal plenary no earlier than 10am, at which these documents will be introduced and next steps will be proposed. It then plans to hold formal plenaries in the afternoon and close sometime on Saturday.

The Secretariat has announced that observer access to the closing plenaries will be limited. RINGO has 1 secondary badge for Plenary Room 1 (Pen Y Fan) and 3 secondary badges for Plenary Room 2 (Cairn Gorm) to distribute to members who attend the daily coordination meeting. In addition, the 10-min rule will be in place tomorrow for the plenary sessions. As a reminder, this basically means that:

  1. Security lets in all the access card holders into the Plenary.
  2. Security waits until 10 mins from the start of the meeting and if still there are empty seats in the observer areas, including IGOs and UN seats, they let in observers without access cards.
  3. While NGOs can sit at IGO or UN seats if they are available, if and when their representatives show up, please immediately vacate the seats for them.
  4. Note: ONLY PARTIES CAN SIT IN THE SEATS WITH PARTY PLACARDS.

RINGO Meeting Saturday 13 November at 1200

Given the timing of the new decision text drafts and the short, informal plenary (which will be live broadcasted on UNFCCC site and on the COP26 platform), RINGO will postpone its daily coordination meeting until 12 noon. Please meet at the tables outside Side Event Room Strangford Lough (our regular meeting room during the COP). If the Armadillo is closed, then we will meet at the cafe next to the Plenary Rooms.):: :

RINGO Meeting Friday 12 November – MR 8

05 November 2021 – RINGO Meeting and Session Access

There will be a RINGO meeting tomorrow 5 November 2021 between 9:00 and 9:45 in Side Event Room Strangford Lough.

Based on our understanding as of 0100 4 November 2021, tickets are not needed to access the negotiating rooms on 05 November.  Rather, for negotiation meeting rooms, there will be at least one name plate reserved for each NGO constituency.  (There may be more space available, we have just have at least one seat committed for the constituency). RINGO will determine who will be able to occupy the RINGO seat at each negotiation session during the morning RINGO meeting.  Note: If you are able to occupy the RINGO seat during a session, you are not representing or speaking for RINGO.

If you are unable to be in the room, you can watch the negotiations through the COP26 Platform.

Please do not email/call/text the constituency focal points about meeting access.  Onsite RINGO steering committee members have final say.

Notes Database: A reminder that RINGO maintains a notes database on our website as a service to those attending and following the UNFCCC negotiations. As access the first few days has been limited and challenging, both in-person and virtually, we are asking that if you have been able to view a session, take notes and are willing to share them, please forward your notes to notes@ringfocalpoint.org. We will post them on our COP26 notes website. Your efforts will be very much appreciated!

Please use the following guidelines when sending notes:
**Send in pdf format
**include the name and institution of the notetaker on the note
**include the session attended – agenda item, day and time – on the note
